I have been fascinated with interior decorating/design since childhood. My first encounter with design was the animal print sofa I saw on the television series Green Acres. I can still remember the first time I saw it. That sofa stopped me in my tracks, and in a word it was AWESOME! Afterwards, I faithfully watched Green Acres hoping to get another look at that gorgeous piece of furniture.

My next encounter with decorating /design, Summer Chores. ugh! My Dad was a construction worker, and he worked very long hours. So it was up to my Mom and her five girls to keep our home in tip top shape. We cleaned house, washed windows, mowed the lawn, planted flowers/vegetables, and last but not least we painted the house more than once. I was the youngest of the group and my job was to paint the trim/eaves. And I hated every minute of it. Having to go up and down the later drove me nuts, and to make matters worse my older siblings  were hanging out under the oak tree, in the shade. (imagine that)

Fast forward several years later, I got married and let's just say hubby's house was in need of lots of TLC. So I rolled up my sleeves and went to work. (hubby helped on occasion). We painted, hung paneling, turned a junk room into a laundry/playroom, installed ceiling fans, enclosed the front porch, and the list went on and on. But after five years and several projects later it was time to move on, from our 2 bed 1 bath cozy home. Our family had increased by one and we needed more space.

Our next home was a 3 bed 2 bath home approximately 1900 square feet. No fixer upper here, it was brand spanking new. We actually thought we were top dogs, we could turn around in our new home, without having to go outside. ha ha ha! Any who, I had a BLAST decorating and making it our own.

Eleven years had elapsed since we purchased our home, but now it was time to say good bye, to yet another home. We had out grown this home as well. Now we were a family of four. We started looking for a house in June of that year and by October, we had found our dream home. The house, a custom built two story ranch boasts double the square footage of our previous home ,and it had everything we wanted and more. But did I mention?  It was a FIXER UPPER!!! And that's precisely what we have been doing since we moved in FIXIN UP!

I started this blog in August of 2012, because I had driven my husband and son Krazy with all my decorating mayhem, and to chronicle the process of my house being transformed from what my neighbors referred to, as the "HAUNTED HOUSE". It is my hope that this blog will inspire, motivate and encourage you to create the home, that you want to live in! without spending a fortune!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I really enjoyed reading your page. I agree 100% with not having to spend a fortune to create your dream home. After all, its what we fantasize about only to bring it to life. I've always had an eye for something that would need a little attention, just to see how it would turn out after it gets some attention. I think you are on the right track for a complete make-over of your home office. I would like to commend you for your efforts and continue to persevere onward. Great Job!

  2. Thank you, your encouragement means a lot. I am almost finished with the office and the reveal is coming soon. Have a great week!

  3. Lory, I'm enjoying your blog! I'm sitting in my favorite chair in my living room with my feet up on the ottoman.

  4. Thanks Michelle, I am really glad that you are enjoying my blog. And thanks for all your kind comments, they mean a lot to me. Have a Great weekend!

Bar Stool Makeover

Hi all, this week I have another makeover. Last week's post was a chair makeover, this week it's bar stools. Here's a little history of how I acquired the bar stools. I have a friend named John who owns a thrift store. One day, while shopping in his store I purchased a beautiful 1920's sleigh bed. As I was leaving John informed me that he had a gift for me, since I purchased the bed. My response was, "for little ole me". As he scurried to the back of the store I WAS SO EXCITED and I couldn't wait to see what the gift was. When I saw the bar stools I was SPEECHLESS!!!!!! They were WICKED NASTY! But how could I resist them, they were a gift with purchase (free). And besides they had  great potential. I brought the stools home and got busy. First, they had to be disassembled. Next, I scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed, so much so I was dizzE (dizzy). lol! I was in such a state of shock, I forgot to take a picture of the seat cushions. Trust me, you don't …

This too shall pass

Hi everyone,

It has been quite some time since my last post. Two years and four months to be exact, but who's counting. I am posting today to encourage/motivate you. Things are changing so rapidly in our society, and the coronavirus pandemic has most of us on edge. Some of us have never experienced anything of this magnitude, and the thought of illness, losing our jobs/everything we have worked for, and being isolated from family and friends can be quite scary, but be encouraged.

My prayer is that all will be well with you and yours. And that you will be intentional and live on purpose in the days and weeks ahead. Rest assured that this, too, shall pass!
